Sunjuwan Military station kick starts Van Mahotsava week | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 17: In collaboration with the District Forest Department, Chhattis Pariwar at Sunjuwan Military Station today kick started a massive plantation exercise within the premises of the cantonment. During the inaugural ceremony held in presence of the Commander, Sunjuwan Military Station and the District Forest Officer, two girls gave an inspiring speech as to how a well-planned arboriculture scheme could do wonders to uplift the ecosystem. It was followed by plantation of over 1500 saplings by all Officers, JCOs, other ranks and civilian personnel of defence department residing in the cantonment. The inaugural ceremony marked the start of the Van Mahotsava Week, an endeavor to nurture our perishing eco system. The exercise will continue till the first week of August. District Forest Department will provided technical advice during the planning stage and saplings at nominal rates. The exercise had a hopeful beginning despite the odds of water shortage and the rocky terrain in the garrison. Fertile soil had to be transported from nearby localities. All military garrisons have rich and diverse flora and fauna. This shows that serious efforts are made by the Armed Forces to conserve nature. Numerous arboriculture schemes are being undertaken in the military stations to contribute towards the preservation of fast perishing eco-system. We sincerely hope that this celebration marks the dawn of the "Go Green Revolution" in the city of temples.
