Expired in Feb, Rajouri health dept forget to renew Blood Bank licence | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, July 17: Though it was serious matter of the death and lives of the people, Health authorities in Rajouri had reportedly forgotten to renew Blood Bank licence which had expired in February this year. A High level team of Government today visited the Bank in this regard to take stock of the situation. Sources said that Blood Bank opened by the health department in District Hospital Rajouri in the year 2000 is reportedly no more eligible for renewal of the licence following creating of deficiency by the health authorities in the Bank. "The Blood Bank Licence expired in Feb, 2010 and the Health authorities had forgotten to renew its licence putting question mark on the lives of patients requiring blood", sources said adding "It is crime to keep the bank functional after its date is expired and the District Health authorities Rajouri were sleeping for the last 4 months". Sources said that the authorities have allegedly created deficiency in the Blood Bank which may force the authorities to close the Bank as it could not be made operational till having all the formalities and facilities available within it. Sources said that Elisa Reader of the Blood Bank is not functioning. They added that the room temperature is also not maintained as per standards to store blood samples in it besides there is no power backup system in the Bank. "When the Blood samples could not be stored in the Bank due to failure of Elisa Reader and shortage of power supply, the patients should not be thrown into the grave by transfusing blood of this Bank", sources added. Meanwhile a team of government headed by Satish Kumar Controller of Drugs and Food Organization along with other 5 members including TL Raina Professor in Government Medical College Jammu visited the Blood Bank and took stock of the situation. Sources said that the team has taken strong note of the functioning of Blood Bank after its licence had expired in February. When contacted, Superintendent of Rajouri Hospital Dr ZA Shawl admitted that the license of the Blood Bank had expired in February but added that they have processed for renewal one month before the expiry.
