8 trapped Vaishnodevi yatris airlifted | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 17: Indian Air Force (IAF) came to the rescue of eight Vaishno Devi pilgrims today after they got trapped at the foothills of Har Ki Pouri Temple due to flash floods in river Tawi. The yatris including two males, two females and four children reached Jammu a couple of days ago for darshan of holy deity. Today they arrived Jammu after performing the holy pilgrimage and had to depart to their native state in the evening. Since Uttar Sampark Karanti Express was scheduled to depart at 8:45 pm the yatris decided to go for Jammu darshan and went to Har Ki Pouri where while taking bath in the river Tawi, they were caught in flash floods. The District Administration had sent its three personnel towards helping them but because of the continuously rising level of waters of Tawi they also got stuck and finally IAF efforts were requisitioned. The IAF responding promptly pressed its Mi-17 chopper into service and evacuated the stranded pilgrims and flew them to safety. SHO Bagh-e-Bahu police station Manjeet Singh giving information said that initially the service of Civil Defense divers was pressed but when they failed to rescue them, the district administration requested IAF for a chopper which eventually lifted the pilgrims. All the pilgrims were rescued safely, he added. The pilgrims have been identified as Vinod Tiwari, his wife Rajini Tiwari and son Kapil Tiwari. Rajesh Tiwari, his wife Sunita Tiwari, tw sons Suraj and Ajay and daughter Vijeta Tiwari later were dropped at Jammu Railway station for their further journey , SHO informed.
