Separate homeland viable solution: KPs | | | ASHWANI EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 17: The deteriorating situation in Kashmir Valley and growing secessionism has vindicated and justified the separate homeland demand for over seven lakh Kashmiri Pandits within Valley. In view of the present movement in Kashmir launched by the separatists, the KPs are left with no alternative but to forcefully put forth the demand of a separate state for over seven lakh Pandits in Valley, said newly floated Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) chief Kundan Kashmiri. ``The majority in Kashmir has rejected the coexistence and pluralism in Valley during 1989-90 after militancy gripped the Valley forcing over seven lakh minority Hindus to take refuge in Jammu and other parts of country''. The community is debarred to return and its all immovable property has either been damaged and grabbed by anti-social elements, he added. Kashmiri said the recent violence in Valley and continued shutdown for last over a fortnight now has made those Pandit organizations to rethink their decision who were earlier opposed to homeland demand. Serious deliberations are being held among the intellectuals of the community on the issue in view of deteriorating situation in Kashmir which has put a question mark on the honorable and dignified return of the community to Valley, he added. He said KPC will take a lead in regrouping all the KP organisations who are unanimous on homeland demand to intensify the struggle. Spending 20 years in exile is not a less time for a community and how far we will remain in this condition said, P L Koul Badgami, convener Kashmiri Hindu Conference (KHC). Mr Badgami who earlier had opposed to separate homeland demand for Pandits in Valley has now become a strong votary of it saying that this was the only solution to Kashmir tangle as well as problems of over seven lakh KPs living an exiled life in different parts of the country fo over two decades now. Mr Badgami said the Government of India should give a serious thought to KPs demand of homeland within Valley now as this was the only solution to our problem. Creation of separate homeland in Valley will also strengthen pro -Indian forces in Kashmir, he added. Mr Badgami has announced his full support to Panun Kashmir in its present struggle and stressed on unity among all KP organisations advocating for homeland for Pandits in Valley. This is high time for all KP factions to come on a single platform and launch a cohesive battle for carving out of homeland for Pandits within Valley. Badgami also appealed those KP factions who were opposed to homeland demand to reconsider their decision in the greater interests of the community and country. Expressing his dismay over deteriorating situation in Kashmir Valley, convener Roots in Kashmir (RIK), Vir Saraf said this has indicated that Pandits can't live along with majority Muslims in Valley who have rejected co-existence. The Government should now give a serious thought to the Pandits demand of settling them at a single township in Valley if it is sincere in the return of community to Kashmir, he said, adding there is no option left out of it. Saraf who also stresses unity among all KP organisations leaving aside their ideological differences said the entire community should give a serious thought to this demand oterwise the community will vanish with the passage of time and loose its all link to its moorings. ``We have every right to put forth our demand, he said. If Government of India is ready to listen to those who have revolted against the state by taking to arms why will not it listen to us and accommodate our demand'', Saraf asked? However the homeland demand has not got any support from any political or other organisation in J&K or outside it. Even the RSS has opposed this demand since the formation of Panun Kashmir while BJP, Congress, Leftists and other political parties have rejected the demand at its outset.
