Chaman condemns Farooq's statement against Army Chief | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 18: Sharply reacting over the statement of the Union Minister and National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah in which he had indicted the Army Chief for his simply suggesting that Army had done its job in controlling the insurgency in Kashmir, and it was for the political leadership to restore normalcy and maintain law order, the former Union Minister and the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta alleged that by doing so, Dr Farooq was trying to cover up their own follies and attempting to shift the blame elsewhere. Prof Gupta pointed out that because of the mess created by the Coalition of the NC-Congress, a serious situation has again developed in the Valley but it was unfortunate that instead of securing help from all the quarters including that of the security forces, the ruling leaders have begun targeting the forces which had made tremendous sacrifices to save Jammu and Kashmir for India and protected the integrity and unity of the country. As far as Abdullahs are concerned, the BJP leader pointed out that their role had not been above board right from 1953 to 1975, and again at several other occasions during the past over three decades. He recalled that in 1989, it was again the Coalition of the NC-Congress when a sad situation was created and armed militancy had erupted. But instead of tackling the situation, which of course was their own creation, Dr Farooq had left the people in lurch and fled away abroad. It was the Army and other forces which struggled hard over the years and brought the situation under control. For achieving this, the men in Khaki had to sacrifice over seven thousands of Jawans and officers as also so many others were injured and incapacitated. Prof Gupta regretted that instead of being grateful to these gallant forces, the leaders of the coalition are indulging in hurling invectives and raising accusing fingers against them just to woo certain section of the people who are playing the game of enemy in the proxy war being waged from across border against India in Jammu and Kashmir. This blame game against the forces is a part of a design to blunt the weapons with which the extremism and religious terrorism can be dealt with, he added and warned that nationalist forces in the country would not tolerate such moves which are directed to malign the forces engaged in taking upon the ultras and trouble makers.
