Natrang stages Balwant Gargi's 'Damaad' | | | early times report Jammu, July 18: Natrang Studio theatre staged here today Balwant Gargi's Hindi play 'Damad' under the direction of Neeraj Kant. Originally written in Punjabi, this intense dramatic story has been presented in many languages and forms all over the country in the past. Natrang director Balwant Thakur informed that a children's play Andher Nagri Chopat Raja is being presented by Natrang at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu on Monday, July 19 at 6 pm. The entry to the show will be free. The theme of the play revolves round a 'Baagi' (revolutionary), Himmat Singh who knocks at the door of a family, which is waiting the arrival of their son-in-law. The pleas of the old woman not to give shelter are hypnotically transformed by the 'freedom fighter', who pleads that to keep the flame of freedom burning; she has to give refuge to him. He even reminds her that her husband had sacrificed his life for the cause of freedom. The lady is moved that she not only gives shelter to the 'Baagi' (revolutionary) but makes him sit near her daughter to pose as her husband only to avoid the police from arresting him. The police came and thought the 'Baagi' to be the real son-in law. The police went away but kept a watch on the house. However, the 'Baagi' escaped after the police have left. Meanwhile, the real son-in-law arrives and his arrival charms everyone. There is a festivity in the house but suddenly every thing goes off with the entry of police again. Here the lady of the house has no words to plead that their new guest is the real son-in-law. She pleads in vain and the police pay no heed to it. The pathetic feelings of a lady, who has not only lost her husband but also sacrificed her "Damad" for the cause of freedom, are aesthetically portrayed in the play. Rahul Singh as Himmat Singh, Divya Kohli as Nihal Kour, Balwinder Singh as Sarban Singh, Ishfaq Anwar as Thanedar, Tajasvi Sharma as Bachno and Archit Manda as Sipahi really mesmerized the audience with their superb performance. Rohit Verma designed the lights of the play while Mohit Sharma played music. Vikram Sharma did the presentations whereas Gaurav Jamwal and Muhammad Yaseen did the sets.
