Doongi residents stage protest, allege government's apathetic attitude

RAJOURI, July 18: Residents of Doongi today attempted to stop cavalcade of ministers on Jammu-Poonch Highway at Kelar to show their anger against the government's apathetic attitude towards Doongi area. However they were restricted by the police to hold dharna till the ministers passed from the area following which they hold demonstration and disrupted traffic on Highway.
As per reports, residents of Doongi area assembled at Kelar to stop cavalcade of some ministers who were on way to Rajouri to attend District Development Board (DDB) meeting scheduled to be held on Monday at Rajouri. The police however restricted them to hold protest till the cavalcade of ministers' passed through the area.
Minister for Health Shah Lal Sharma and Minister of State for Power Shabir Ahmed Khan besides various officers were on their way to Rajouri from Jammu in connection with DDB met.
After VIP vehicles passed from the area, residents held demonstration and raised anti-government slogans.
They said that Doongi area has been ignored on all fronts by the government and the funds being provided to the area are being allegedly diverted to some other areas.
The protestors said that they have no basic facility in Doongi area and they are suffering a lot due to non availability of basic amenities like water and electricity.
"We never see the leaders enquiring about our condition after elections and administration is also not concerned to provide us basic facilities", a protestor Manoj Kumar rued
