Bail to killers is mockery of justice, says Roots In Kashmir

early times report
New Delhi July 18: Roots In Kashmir, a global youth initiative of Kashmiri Pandits today expressed its resentment towards the way four accused of ragging MBBS student Aman Kachroo to death were granted bail by a Fast Track Court in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
"It causes common man a sense of defeat by its own system. At a time when we expected a benchmark verdict, all accused were let off to roam around freely with no justification at all. The Judiciary which is the last savior has acted against its own principles" said Sanjay Peshin, Chief Coordinator of Roots In Kashmir.
Roots in Kashmir, which was at the forefront of the Aman Movement initiated by Dr. Rajender Kachroo, the father of the victim, believes the verdict has pushed the crusader father to a corner and only vindicated the abusive ragging mindset. This is an unfortunate development, which needs serious attention by academics, law experts and even parents. Aman Movement today is an amalgamation of a quest for justice, of change and of building a healthier atmosphere in educational institutions. Kachroo was never exactly an activist.
But Aman movement emerged when he realized that for the world to change, he had to take an initiative. He wanted no other parent to lose a child, the way he did.
Roots In Kashmir appeals to the conscience of Supreme Court of India to intervene in this serious matter through its amicus curie Gopal Subramanian and take a suo-motto cognizance.
"Ragging is a disease which needs to be exposed and countered at each point it germinates. The system by letting off all the accused has failed all crusaders who campaigned against the menace of ragging since March 8th, 2009 when Aman succumbed to the injuries" said Radhika Kaul, activist of Roots In Kashmir, who is also an undergraduate student of Yale University.
Meanwhile, activist and journalist Aditya Raj Kaul has also strongly condemned the bail to the four accused and called it 'gross injustice'. Kaul, who also actively campaigned in the Aman Movement and organized its first protest at Jantar Mantar said, "A year after Aman's brutal killing, we never ever imagined the criminals would go scot-free. This will set a bad precedent in the society."
"It is a disgrace. The common man, especially students and their teachers and parents need to come together to let the Kangra based Fast Track Court know of the agony of Aman's parents" he added.
