JU declares first cut off list for PG admissions | Faculty of Sciences records maximum cut off percentage | | Mishu Gupta EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July19: Jammu University was a festive sight today with large numbers of students gathering on campus to view the first cut-off list. Emotionally charged students had mixed reactions to the list. Some were confident of their career, others felt they could make it to their favourite course in the second and third list as the cut-off comes down. Department of Mathematics walked away with the honour of scaling maximum merit whereas Physics, Chemistry and geography followed the suit, as University of Jammu (JU) declared the first cut off list for admission to various Post Graduate courses here today. If some students are lucky to make it in the first round, such is not the case for the majority. Naresh Gupta, an aspirant, said, "The cut-off is very high in the first list and I doubt whether I will get admission in this round. I will be waiting for the second list. Hope I get luckier then. The cut off figures in maximum departments were purely in accordancewith the tradition, as Faculty of Sciences recorded the relatively higher cut off percentages in comparison to all other Faculties. In Mathematics, the merit went to the maximum of of 84.61 percent and cut off at 76.38 percent whereas disciplines of Chemsitry , Phsyics and Geography alsorecorded the merit in excess of 83 percent. In Physics, it went up to83.38 percent and closed at 76.42 percent whereas in Geography it scaled the mark 83.14 percent and finished down at 73.29 percent and in chemistry the merit went upto 84 percent and cutted at 77.33 percent. Electronics, Botany and Zoology also recorded a relatively high merit,where figures indicated neck-to-neck battle among the candidates forsecuring admissions. In Electronics, the merit started from 82.19 percent and finished at 74.52percent while in Botany it went up to the maximum of 83.04 percent and minimum of 79.14 percent. Meanwhile, Zoology begins with 82.71percent and closed at 79.52 percent.A bitter fight of numeric was also recorded in the disciplines of Geology, and Statistics.In stats it went up to 74.09 and fell down at 61.52 percent while in Geology the merit went up to 72.38 and dipped to as low as 63.52 percent . In Department of Library Sciences, the merit for M Lib scaled the mark of 76.63 percent and folded narrowly at 72.13 percent whereas for BLib, the merit kissed the mark of 75.15 percent and dipped at 72.30 percent to conclude the first cut off list. The disciplines of Commerce and Economics also recorded handsome cutoff merit figures. In Commerce, the merit topped with 80.04 and concluded with 68.91 percent. Meanwhile, In Economics, the merit goes up to 82.72 percent and concluded at the mark of 65.87In udhampur campus , the merit kissed up to 65.33 and dipped at 60.38 percent. Department of Education too witnessed healthy cut off figures. In MEd, the merit gone up to 71.21 and cut off at 66.75 percent .But, in MA Education, the highest percentage stood at 69.61percent, which went down to 64.57 percent to finish up. In the Faculty of Social Sciences, Sociology recorded the maximum of 78.53 and minimum of 68.10 percent whereas in allied category the cut off percentage stood at the maximum of 72.24 percent and finished at 71.09 percent. Psychology recorded the maximum of 72.57 percent while the cut off for this subject stood at 67.95 percent. Meanwhile, for applicants from Science and Commerce stream, the merit surprisingly touched the mark of 80.04 and finished at 79.39 percent. History recorded the highest of 75.61 percent and lowest of64.85percent whereas in allied category it recorded the highest of 79.27 percent and lowest of 74.72 percent. Meanwhile, in Political Science, the merit touched 74.28 percent and fell down to 66.52 A stiff competition was witnessed in Languages also wherein English recorded the maximum 73.33 percent and lowest of 60.71 percent. Hindi also made a good beginning with 68.04 percent and finished with 62.81 percent. Sanskrit and Urdu also recorded the handsome initial mark of 71.42 and 71.47percent respectively but closed at 64.22 and62.57 percent respectively. The lowest initial percentage was recorded in Buddhist Studies andPunjabi wherein maximum merit recorded was 72.66 and 65.19 percent andsteeped down to 61.43 and 57.52 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the next cut off list would also be declared soon.
