Rajouri, July 19: THE GPRS services of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch has been snapped for the last three days leaving thousands of customers in lurch. The customers in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch are paying Rs 250 per month for GPRS service to BSNL but the same is not functioning for the last three days due to the reason better known to the BSNL authorities. "We are paying rent and other charge for GPRS but there is no GPRS signal for the last three days", a subscriber Mushtaq Ahmed said adding that though the service was one of the best in the area, the same has been snapped due to unknown reason. Another GPRS subscriber Sachin Ahangar said that he has to browse internet to monitor some interview, BSNL has stopped GPRS service in the area. Journalists associated with various newspapers and channels are worst sufferers due to snapping of GPRS service. These scribes had to file their reports through internet and most of them were using the same. "We are facing acute problem for the last three days as BSNL has snapped GPRS service in Rajouri Poonch area", Tazeem Dar, President of Rajouri Press Council said. He added that most of the journalists are dependent upon this service as it kept them updated on the handset also. "This is strange that people are paying rent of the service and BSNL has switched off it for the last many days without informing the people about any fault if any", he added. It is pertinent to mention here that GPRS service of BSNL was one of the most stable services in this area but with its weak signal from the last many days, people are opting for other services. "I am going to switch over to Airtel or Aircel for use of GPRS", a BSNL customer said. When contacted, Trunk Dialing Engineer of Rajouri Poonch Circle of BSNL, Mr. Chawla expressed ignorance over the weak signal of GPRS. However, he said that they are improving the services and there might be some fault. "We will check it and restore the service within a day or two", TDE said.
