SM Krishna to meet Hillary in Kabul

early times report
NEW DELHI, July 16: External Affairs Minister SM Krishna left New Delhi today for Kabul to attend a conference of countries that are helping and contributing to the reconstruction of Afghanistan. The Afghan President Hamid Karzai is expected to host a dinner for Krishna and members of his his delegation tonight.
Though Krishna is not likely to meet his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the conference in Afghanistan scheduled for tomorrow, there is a possibility of indirect talks through the hosts and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton though the official position of both US and Afghanistan is to stay away from bilateral issues between India and Pakistan.
Qureshi has already been in Kabul prior to arrival of Krishna and so has been Clinton. The two have met where the Foreign Minister of Pakistan has reportedly made a plea for a reasonable and just "solution" to the Kashmir problem between India and Pakistan. Krishna has a meeting scheduled for tomorrow with Clinton where the US Secretary would again try to send both India and Pakistan to negotiations again.
India has already kept the doors for talks with Pakistan open despite recent undiplomatic remarks by the neighbouring countries Foreign Minister. Krishna has said clearly while rebutting some of the remarks made bt Qureshi that the invitation to the latter to visit India later this year stands despite what happened recently during and after the July 15 talks between the two leaders at Islamabad.
In any case both India and Pakistan Foreign Ministers are going to be watched keenly through their Kabul visit and so is the role howsoever quiet to be played by the US Secretary of State in bringing India and Pakistan to talking terms again despite recent setbacks after which the two sides have been quailing back into indifference of sorts towards each other.
