Irate residents stop train, protest shortage of water | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 19: Fuming with anger over the erratic water supply, the irate residents of Railway Colony East today stopped the train traffic as they held a strong protest against railway administration. Hundreds of people gathered near Jammu Railway station and blocked the railway traffic resulting into halting of Mumbai bound Swaraj Super Fast Express which had to depart at 11:15 am. Shouting slogans against the railway authorities for their failure to provide regular water supply, the protesters allowed the train to depart from Jammu Railway Station after hour or so. Demanding regular supply of water to their quarters at East Colony, the railway employees residing at East Colony Railway alleged that the authorities are least concerned to their sufferings. The protest of the people caused great inconvenience to the travelers at railway station. Ironically no officer of the railway administration came forward to assure the people of regular water supply. The protestors were pacified by Government Railway Police cops. Later the matter was reported to the railway division at Ferozpur administration which assured early redressal of their problems. Speaking to the media persons protestors said that for the last two months they were complaining to the Jammu Railway administration for water but to no avail. Sensing no other option they blocked the railway track so that their demands reach the railway minister.
