2,083 pilgrims leave Jammu for Amarnath yatra

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 19: A fresh batch of 2,083 pilgrims today left the base station Yatri Bhawan here for Shri Amarnath cave shrine.
Total 2,083 pilgrims, including 1,333 men, 517 women, 42 children and 191 sadhus, proceeded towards their respective yatra base camps at Nunwan (in Pahalgam) and Baltal in the valley this morning under tight security cover, official sources said.
Escorted by a security vehicle, a convoy of 65 vehicles, including 24 State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses, 14 private passenger buses and 27 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), left the Yatri Bhawan here the official added.
The two-month-long Amarnath pilgrimage, which commenced on July 1, is proceeding smoothly, sources said, adding that administration has made all arrangements to ensure smooth yatra.
As many as 50 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed to ensure security for yatris.
