Preventive education prog extended at Gandhi Nagar hospital | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 19: Extending better services, Preventive Education Programme for the patients and the public at large was launched by the Academic Club at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu in collaboration with Astrazeneca Ltd (Pharmaceuticals). A movie show was also shown and a presentation was given by Dr S.S. Soodan, physician specialist on dietary habits, food to be eaten and good for health. Dr Arun Sharma, Deputy Medical Superintendent was also present along with physician specialists. Dr Sunil Sharma and Dr Vipan Gupta, Astrazeneca Ltd (Pharmaceuticals) was represented by Mr Deepak Dhar. Dr S.S. Soodan, Physician Specialist said that a healthy diet is one that helps maintain or improve health. A healthy diet involves consuming appropriate amounts of all nutrients, and an adequate amount of water. Nutrients can be obtained from many different foods, so there are a wide variety of diets that may be considered healthy diets. Dr. Arun Sharma, Deputy Medical Superintendent also shared that mass coverage of mass-produced, processed, "snack" or "sweet" products directly marketed to children has worked to undermine policy efforts to improve eating habits. The main problem with such advertisements for foods is that alcohol and fast food are portrayed as offering excitement, escape and instant gratification. From a psychological perspective, a new healthy diet may be difficult to achieve for a person with poor eating habits. This may be due to tastes acquired in early adolescence and preferences for fatty foods. A healthy diet needs to have a balance of macronutrients / energy ( fats, proteins, and carbohydrates ) and micronutrients to meet the needs of the individual without inducing toxicity from excessive amounts. |
