NABARD organises workshop

DODA, July19:With an aim to provide capacity building assistance and financial support to the farming community and youth, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organised a workshop in Doda on "Integrated Development of Small Ruminants".
The workshop was held under the chairmanship of the District Development Commissioner, Doda, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Khan. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC underlined the need for setting up of small sheep/ goat rearing and breeding units in the district.
He said that the main aim of the NABARD is to uplift the socio-economic condition of the rural population by providing them loan and technical assistance in establishing their own income generating units.
He asked the unemployed youths to come forward and avail maximum benefits of the centrally and state government sponsored schemes.
He said every possible assistance and support will be provided to the aspiring youths and impressed upon the officers to motivate them by organizing awareness camps in rural and far flung areas at block and panchayat level so as to make rural masses aware regarding various self employment schemes of the Government and about latest technologies available for the development and improvement of the native breeds of sheeps and goats to improve their production & quality.
He also stressed for coordination between Animal & Sheep Husbandry Department, Bankers & NGO's to provide hassle free assistance.
The DDC also informed the meeting that Government has taken various initiatives for ensuring easy access to financial services and adequate credit facilities for setting up income generating units.
He also said that Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) will act as main facilitators under the scheme and provide training in coordination with the Animal Husbandry department, in addition to facilitating sanction of loans to these groups by the banks and arrange inputs and marketing of the animals.
The DDC assured them that their demands would be looked into and appropriated steps will be initiated in this regard. Various queries were put forth by the farmers on the occasion which were accordingly responded by the NABARD officers.
DDO NABARD, Chief Planning Officer Doda, Lead Bank Officer Doda, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Doda, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Doda, Bankers, NGO's besides large number of farmers attended the workshop.
