Natrang stages Children's play 'Andher Nagri Chopat Raja' | | | early times report Jammu, July 19:Natrang's annual venture 'Children's Theatre Camp-2010' concluded here today at Abhinav theatre, Jammu with the presentation of Bharatendu Harish Chander's Hindi play 'Andher Nagari Chopat Raja' under the direction of Sumeet Sharma. Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was the chief guest . Welcoming the guests, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that Natrang started Children theatre in Jammu way back in the year 1990 and since then has been organising regular workshops and training programmes for children. Introducing the director of the play to the audience, he said that Sumeet Sharma who is a post graduate in dramatics has been awarded Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for excellence in direction. The story goes around a kingdom named Andher Nagri ruled by Chopat Raja, the rules and laws of the Nagri were very strange. Everything had an equal cost be it fruit or some other commodity. One 'Guru' and 'Chela' entered the city and found it very strange, sensing something suspicious, 'Guru' leaves the city but being materialistic, 'Chela' remained there to face the future consequences. Once a goat died , the king being very cynical, summons the whole city so as to punish the real culprit. The blame was shifted to one & the other & so on. Eventually on very illogical grounds, 'Kotwal' is found guilty but when he was being hanged, his head didn't match the size of the rope. King ordered to find a person who fits the size so as to give the justice to the goat's death. 'Chela' fits that size and thus was given death sentence. He calls his Guru for the help. Sensing the king's foolishness, guru weaves a false story which tempts the king to die so as to attain Moksh. In a very hilarious manner, the play teaches us many things.
