Guv for scientific conservation of heritage sites | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 20 : The Governor N. N. Vohra, today said that Jammu and Kashmir has a vast treasure of historical sites and heritage buildings of tremendous tourist interest which needs to be conserved and protected in a scientific manner. The Governor was interacting with a team of experts of INTACH, which met him at Raj Bhavan, here this evening. The team, comprising Mr. Saleem Beg, Convener, INTACH, Jammu and Kashmir Chapter, Ms. Saima Iqbal, Mr. Muzamil Yasin, Mr. Anjum Bhat and two foreign experts, Dr. Jan Haernaest, landscape and conservation expert on Historic Gardens and Ms. Sarra Javed, an Urban Planner from USA, discussed with the Governor the salient features of the plans being formulated for the conservation and restoration of famous Mughal Gardens of Nishat and Shalimar and urban renewal of Jehlum river front from Zainakadal to Maharaj Ganj in Srinagar city. The Governor discussed with Mr. Beg and his team members about the activities of the INTACH in the State, status of formulation and implementation of the various projects related to the conservation of heritage buildings and sites as well as INTACH's future plan of action.
