Chamber discusses prevailing situation in valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 20: A meeting of senior members and office bearers of Chamber of Commerce & Industry was held here today. The meeting was convened under the chairmanship of senior vice president Tara Chand Gupta to discuss prevalent situation in the state particularly in valley and its impact on the state economy in general and traders of Jammu region in particular. The members expressed deep anguish on the prolonged sufferings to which the people of Valley are subjected to in view of continuous bandhs which had become a regular feature for the last month and a half. Secretary General, Satish Gupta informed the meeting that as a result of prolonged bandhs traders of Jammu region who are biggest suppliers of goods to the valley have suffered heavy losses both in terms of non-delivery of goods to the valley as well as non-remittance of money from traders of valley. He said due date for filing of returns under VAT is just few days away and if by that time normal trade activities are not restored in the valley traders of Jammu shall not be able to deposit VAT amount in stipulated time. In view of the prevalent situation in the state meeting decided to request the state government to extend the date for filing of quarterly VAT returns of 1st quarter.
