B.Ed course-different eligibility for pvt and govt colleges | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 20: The authorities of the University of Jammu are hell bent to deteriorate the academic standard of the different colleges and other institutions affiliated with it by adopting different parameters. Even from past some years, it is seen that the number of private institutions has swelled enormously in the length and breadth of the state. In the beginning of this session, the Directorate of Colleges Development (DCD), University of Jammu has notified that the eligibility criteria for the admission in the private B. Ed colleges of the Jammu region will be 40 percent for general categories instead of 45 percent and just pass percentage in case of students of the reserved categories, earlier it was 40 per cent. Pertinently, in Jammu region there are 76 private B. Ed colleges, including government college. Interestingly, these colleges belong to influential persons including politicians of different hues. Every year thousands of students are enrolled in these colleges mostly from the neighboring state. Last year, about 18, 000 students were enrolled for the B.Ed course. Interestingly, more then 50 per cent of private colleges are in district Jammu alone and which are of mainly influential persons and politicians and the University administration is only providing benefits to the some influential persons. As per the Government published notice for the admission of the regular B. Ed course by scrapping the eligibility criteria was 40 percent last few days but on the other hand Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) advertised the notice indicating criteria for the eligibility for the Government B. Ed course as 50 percent for Government College. Sources stated that the university has scrapped the eligibility criteria for the private colleges just to appease private players of the field not to improve the academic standards of the colleges. When contacted Director Colleges Development (DCD) Prof Rajiv Gupta, he stated ``we have lowered the eligibility criteria for admission just to provide an opportunity for all students. Setting eligibility criteria for B.Ed course in government colleges is sole responsibility of BOPEE not ours''.
