Relations between BJP and Pakistani Army, Ayesha Siddiqi exposes BJP | | | RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 20: It's no wonder then that not only PDP patron and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, but also a number of Kashmiri leaders have repeatedly hailed Atal Behari Vajpayee of the BJP, saying all his initiatives on the state were well-meaning. The Vajpayee's "solution within the framework of Insaniyat" (as opposed to the cardinal principles of statecraft) has earned him kudos from the bulk of the separatist leadership in general and PDP leadership in particular. What is also significant is the appreciation of the Vajpayee line on Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan in Pakistan. What an irony! A party (BJP) that consistently talked of unity and integrity of India, complete merger of the state and "ab aar paar ki ladai hogi" had taken a complete U-turn when it manipulated power at the Centre by entering into an unholy alliance with those whose ideology was altogether different from that of the BJP. It is very important to note that none of the coalition partners ever changed even slightly its stand on its professed ideology. Most of the coalition partners preferred to come out of BJP-led NDA government, instead of compromising their ideology. The BJP was, and is, the only political outfit in the country, which has totally abandoned its ideology, obviously, for the sake of vote-bank politics overlooking the fact that a substantial chunk of the country's electorate turned to it between 1996 and 1998 with the hope that it would religiously pursue what it consistently preached before coming to power at the Centre. On the contrary, it did exactly the opposite. The BJP has lost its moorings. Its stand on Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and terrorism has undergone a radical change (not in positive sense). The today's BJP is one that considers LK Advani as the most suitable prime ministerial candidate -- Advani who had dumbfounded, alarmed, surprised and angered the entire nation by describing the communalist of communalists and the one who ensured the country's communal partition Jinnah as "secularist" of secularists; the today's BJP considers Jaswant Singh as a "great asset for the party" - Jaswant Singh who wrote a lengthy book on Jinnah to tell the Indian nation and the world that Jinnah was a secularist of secularists and that there were leaders in the country like Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel whose role was quite questionable, Jaswant Singh whom the party disgraced, humiliated and expelled from the primary membership of the BJP some ten months ago for writing in favour of Jinnah has taken back by the party high command (read Advani), notwithstanding the fact that he declared at the time of rejoining the party that "he stands by what he wrote"; the today's BJP has highest regard for Sanjay Dutt, who was reportedly involved in the Mumbai serial bomb blasts - Sanjay Dutt who now is the brand ambassador of the BJP-led Gujarat government; the today's BJP has highest regard for Ram Jethmalani, who repeatedly abused Vajpayee; who took on the party's mentor, the RSS, a number of times, who contested election against Vajpayee from the Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency and who worked hard to persuade the powers-that-be in the country to endorse the Musharraf's four-point Kashmir solution; and the today's BJP holds the likes of Tarun Vijay in high esteem because he, like Vajpayee, believes in "Insaniyat" and not state craft. This is the today's BJP. Again, it's no wonder that most of the people have come to believe that the BJP is a formation that has no ideology, no commitment to the national cause, no commitment to the commitment that it would scrap Article 370, no commitment to Ram Temple, no commitment to Ram Setu and no commitment to what it says in public during the election campaign and thereafter; that it cannot be depended upon; that it plays with the sentiments of the Hindus and outrages them in no time; and that there are elements in the BJP who can compromise the Indian position in Jammu and Kashmir anytime. That's the reason no one takes any of the BJP leaders seriously. (To be continued)
