Violating ceasefire, Pak fires on IB
7/20/2010 10:58:53 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 20: Violating ceasefire, the Pak Rangers fired at some forward outposts on the International Border (IB) in Pargwal sub-sector of Akhnoor, about 30 km from here last night. SP (rural) Mohan Lal said firing started at about 9 pm and continued upto 11 pm. Official sources said the firing, which was unprovoked, was aimed at facilitating infiltration by the Pak-based militants into the Indian territory to give impetus to the hitherto waning militancy in the state.
Sources said the Rangers started firing on Deora and its adjoining outposts at about 9 pm. The alert BSF jawans, guarding the outposts, retaliated, the sources added.
The intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides continued for over two hours. Sources said after the Rangers opened the mouth of their guns, all the outposts and ambushes on the IB were alerted to foil any infiltration bid by terrorists from across the border. There was no casualty on the Indian side and casualty, if any, on the Pak side was not immediately known, the sources added.
Sources said the issue would be raised by BSF with the Rangers and a protest would be lodged in a flag meeting with them. This was the seventh ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the IB and the Line of Control (LoC) this month. Pakistani troops had targeted six Indian posts with mortar, rockets and small arms fire in Poonch sector on July 15 night. The Pakistani troops had also fired on six Indian posts along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sub-sector of Poonch on July 15. There was also
a ceasefire violation on the IB in R S Pura sub-sector the same day. On July 9, the Rangers had violated ceasefire in Mawa belt of Samba district. On July 6, the Rangers fired at Pindi, Mala Bela and Chak Phagwari border outposts in which a BSF jawan was killed and a villager.
