Being a favourite tourist spot of the country having beautiful scenery and many remarkable tourist spots in the entire length and breadth of the state particularly in the valley of Kashmir, State authorities were expecting a huge influx of visitors this season due to the heavy snowfall in Gulmarg, but unrest in the valley has stopped foreign tourists from travelling to the region.

The gravity of the situation can be judged by just have a cursory glance on the rates of the airline fares, hotels rooms, taxi fares, guide charges, and also shikaras. These rates have been slashed considerably in wake of present situation in the valley. As these months are the peak season as far as tourist activities are concerned and the people associated with the tourism industry, but the present situation has made the whole thing more edgier and obviously not attractive for tourists. In other months tourism activities are normal and during winter months the business comes to a grinding halt.
