Jammu, July 22 :Demanding probe into the mysterious disappearance of two minor girls from Gulabgarh area of Kishtwar, the state unit of the BJP on Thursday sought direct intervention of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in order to punish the guilty.
Addressing a joint press conference here, today, several BJP legislators under the leadership of state party chief Shamsher Singh Manhas demanded intervention of the Chief Minister and a judicial probe into mysterious disappearance of two minor girls.
Flaying the government for having different approaches towards Kashmir and Jammu with regard to similar type of cases, the BJP chief asked why government right from the Chief Minister was serious in a similar incident pertaining to Shopian town and held several inquiries, including judicial and ordered action stringent against the culprits there.
Asserting that BJP will not leave any stone unturned in bringing the culprits to book, Manhas said that they will also approach bodies like Human Rights Commission, Women Commission and Scheduled Caste Commission in this matter.
The state BJP leaders pointed fingers towards the local SHO and his men and demanded registration of cases against them to deliver justice to the poor.
Addressing media conference, Manhas said that two minor girls namely Sapna and Sunita, both residents of Atholi village in Gulabgarh area of Kishtwar distict, who were arrested by police along with a boy of the same area namely Pardeep Kumar on July 12 on fabricated grounds and SHO of the police station Farooq Ahmed Wani neither informed the parents of the girls, nor took any respectable citizen of the village into confidence in handling the issue of these minor girls belonging to scheduled caste community.
While the boy, who also belonged to the same community was released after four hours on the same day, the poor girls were kept in the lockup for unlimited period and later there whereabouts are not known to any one till date.
Accusing the police of some foul, Manhas said the SHO and his police team maltreated both these girls and later eliminated them by any foul means to cover up their misdeeds, Manhas said. He also flayed government for granting of Rs 75,000 as compensation to the families of these after the Divisional Commi-ssioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal and IGP, Jammu Ashok Gupta, visited the area. "It is not only an insult to the families but also admission by the government that the girls have been killed in police custody". He demanded judicial probe and adequate compensation to the families besides immediate withdrawal of false, fabricated and frivolous cases registered against the locals aimed at harassing them .
The BJP chief also criticised the champions of human rights for their criminal silence over the killings and appealed the Women Commission and the Scheduled Caste Commission to take cognizance of the offence committed by custodians of law so that they are taught a lesson that such incidents do not re-occur in future and faith of the people is restored in the system.
BJP State vice-President Anil Gupta, General Secretary Satish Sharma, party MLAs Prof. Gharu Ram and Shyam Choudhary and BJYM State President Munish Sharma, who were the members of the team deputed by the State BJP to visit the site of incident, met the local people and the administration to know the truth.
