JMC gears up to tackle flash floods

Jammu, July 22 : The Transport Wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation swung into action and deployed men and machinery swiftly in Gangyal area to tackle flood like situation due to heavy rains. The reports were received in the control room of Jammu Municipal Corporation that due to heavy rains the Gangyal Nallah was over flowing and had breached at certain points thereby causing water to enter the premises of the houses in the locality. The Chief Transport Officer, Jammu Municipal Corporation along with 4 numbers of loaders excavators immediately rushed on the spot with sufficient men power and avoided the loss of life and property of the people living in the area. People appreciated the prompt action and efforts of the Jammu Municipal Corporation to save the property of the people living in the area. The Jammu Municipal Corporation has already constituted the teams for tackling the flood like situation during monsoon and have kept the officials from Transport/Sanitation Wing round the clock to act promptly to deal with situations of floods in the city. 4 numbers of vehicles along with 1 JCB have been kept stationed at Municipal Transport Yard, Jewel Chowk, Jammu.
The Municipal Commissioner along with Joint Commissioner (A), Joint Commissioner (W), Asstt. Commissioner (R) and other officials also toured in the city to oversee the arrangements and also inspected the on going/developmental works undertaken by the Jammu Municipal Corporation. He directed the staff to expedite the pace of works while ensuring the quality parameters of the works.
Besides this, adequate number of men and machinery were also pressed into service for clearing of deep drains/Nallahas at Krishna Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar, Jewel Rotary, Deshmesh Nagar and Nanak Nagar.
Apart from this, while accelerating the ongoing campaign against adulteration of food items, Dr. Mohd. Anwar Chouwdhary, Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith a team of Food Inspectors inspected the various food establishments to check the Food Adulteration in commonly used food items including ice cream parlours, fruit juice shops, sweet shops, Halwai Shops Milk & Paneer Shops etc. in the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Talab Tillo , Old City, Digiana.
During the inspection 65 such food establishments were checked and 10 samples of food articles viz. paneer, fruit juice, ice cream, ghee, sweet meat and burfi were lifted. 43 shopkeepers were challaned under J&K Municipal Corporation Act 2000 for creating in-sainitary conditions in the market and 33 establishment were also challaned in the court of law for violating the PFA Act of 1954.
