After fuel price, vegetable rates soar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 22 : The soaring price rise in the vegetables has touched sky high in the winter capital and its adjoining areas affecting the day to day budget of every household. As the rates of vegetables are touching new heights, even vegetable vendors have started keeping lesser quantity of the vegetables out of fear of subsequent losses. Locals allege that the state is doing nothing to contain inflation. The hike in the prices of the vegetables can be judged by having a cursory glance on then prices of some of the vegetables as given by one of the vegetable vendor in posh locality of Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu. The maximum increase in prices was witnessed in Capsicum 60Rs Kg, Tomato 40 Rs Kg, Peas Rs 50 kg, Beans Rs 30 Kg besides others. And the condition of the fruits is no more different. The vegetable seller further said "My daily sale has tremendously decreased, people prefer buying lesser quantity of vegetables, they used to buy earlier or either shifting to commodities having low rates". This affected day to day business of the shopkeepers. Sheela Devi,a housewife said that the price that the vegetable sellers charge from a common man is very expensive, people has to alter the items in their meals". Rahul, a government employee said that my daily wages is not sufficient to bear the hike in prices of fruits and vegetables. He further said that inflation is growing up day by day, it is difficult for a common people to survive in today's time and he requested the government do something to contain the inflation. |
