| 2 militants killed in gunfight | | | SRINAGAR: At least two militants were killed in a gun battle with security forces in North Kashmir's Kupwara District on Wednesday night.
"On specific information about presence of militants in the Rajwar forest area, 90 kilometers from Handwara, a joint party of police and Indian army were dispatched to the area to take on militants there. Militants present there fired on the joint column, thereby triggering a gunfight. In the standoff so far two militants have been killed," said Lt Col JS Brar, army spokesman based in Srinagar.
The militants opened fire on the search party and in the ensuing gun battle, two militants, who are yet to be identified, were killed on Wednesday night, he said.
Reports reaching from Handwara said gunfight is underway in the forests.
