Pak agencies behind Kashmir protests
7/22/2010 11:09:14 PM
Islamabad and the agencies that are opposed to any purposeful dialogue with Delhi for ending the current spell of violence and turmoil seem to be engaged in mounting added pressure on India to concede the demand for converting the bilateral dialogue into the Kashmir centric talks.
Not only this, agencies across the border seem to have come to a conclusion that if the Kashmiri separatists and those indulging in stone pelting and other acts of violence were given added aid and assistance it may create a situation which could force or motivate the US and other developed nation to mediate between Delhi and Islamabad on the Kashmir issue.Hitherto, India has rejected firmly any demand from Pakistan favouring a third-party mediation.
It is in this context that the agencies across the border, including a section in the Army and the ISI,have ordered troops deployed on the border to try for provoking the Indian troops to retaliate in full measure which could later be treated as violation of the border ceasefire by the Indian troops.Well, one can imagine the level of mischief being committed by the Pakistani troops when during the last three weeks they violated ceasefire on more than nine occasions.
During these occasions the Pakistani troops pounded number of Indian border outposts and pickets with mortar fire.More than 20 such pickets were hit in Poonch Akhnoor. Kupwara and Keran.
As far as the International Border in the Jammu sector is concerned the Pakistani Rangers have violated the ceasefire on more than nine occasions. Reports said that since the Pakistani agencies had brought large groups of militants across Akhnoor and R.S.Pora sectors the Pakistani Rangers were targeting the Indian border posts with guns and mortars simply for carving out passage for the infiltrators. According to these reports, during the last three weeks as many as 25 infiltration bids had been foiled by the Army and the BSF.
Apart from instructing the separatists and the militants to intensify their plan of inciting people to take to the streets, after defying curfew restrictions, so that the valley witnessed more violence and bloodshed.
An impression has been allowed to grow in Kashmir that if the current spell of violence and turmoil was sustained for a few weeks more "no power on earth can stop people from tasting azadi."And even official sources confirmed that a major section of people have been led to believe the theory and that has been responsible for more and more support for the ongoing violence.
Once again militants have been directed to carry out operations against the security forces in selected and isolated places so that protesters did not feel demoralised.
Reports said that militants have been told to perform some daring acts which could encourage protesters to indulge in violence on a bigger scale which may invite strict retaliatory measures by the police and paramilitary forces leading to more deaths of civilians required for enraging more and more people for joining protest rallies.
Credit needs to be given to the police and paramilitary forces for observing as much restraint as possible and open fire only after they find the situation having gone out of control. In fact the situation in Kashmir has become a bit tricky.
Militants and their overground supporters keep on egging demonstrators to clash with the security forces so that men of the police and the paramilitary forces were forced to use guns against the protesters which could give a chance to the separatists to cry loud against human rights violations. But patience on the part of the security forces was the need of the hour.Another sound instruction given to the troops, guarding the border,is that they should take sterm measures, including shoot at sight, once they find militants trying to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir.
