Many projects under centrally sponsored schemes abandoned in J&K | | | ASHWANI EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 27: Notwith standing of the claims of development made by state government several projects worth crores of rupees under centrally sponsored schemes have been abandoned in J&K by the authorities. According to confirmed sources several projects in J&K which were taken by for construction under centrally sponsored scheme in Jammu and Kashmir were abandoned in midway by the authorties without assigning any reasons putting the people to a lot of trouble. Hiring examples the sources said that one such project for construction of 2.5km long Bantalab-Barnai road. The total estimate cost on this road was Rs 350 crores though the public works department started work on this road 3 months back and after widening only one kilometer of it the work was suddenly abandoned for unknown reasons by the department. Though the sign boards have been fixed on this road indicating the total amount of construction, name of agency and year of construction but the work was not resumed on its construction beyond one kilometer length. The sources said that due to the pressure of certain influential families who had grabbed the land on both sides of the road, the authorities stopped the work for time being. The people of the area have made many pleas to the concerned PWD authorities but to no avail. Similarly the PWD department has abandoned the work after laying pipes in lane no 2 & 4 in Friends colony subash nagar. The tiles of both the lanes were dismantled for laying of water pipes but later, the department did not bother to renovate them. Though the local residents made number of pleas to authorities of Jammu Municipal Corporation, (JMC) ERA & PHE but the authorities instead of solving the problem are passing backs on each other. The PHE department ignores the demand with the pleas that JMC has to repair the lanes, while the authorities in JMC pass backs on ERA, said Ram Nath a local resident "we are in great trouble for last four months as no one bothers to listen to our problems." The problem is not confined to these two localities only but various other parts in the state. However the official sources when contacted said that there is no delay on part of the government. They said the cause of delay in various works under Prime Ministers Gramin Sadak (PMGSY) is due to delay in allocation of funds by centre. The contractors who executed various works said their liabilities for last six months have not been completed till date due to non availability of funds with department.
