IAF rescues nine from flooded Tawi

EARLY TIMES REPORT
NEW DELHI, July 27: In a swift operation today the Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters evacuated nine villagers trapped in flash floods at Har ki Paudi near Bahu Fort, Jammu.
Later, a statement issued by Ministry of Defence here in the evening said that the villagers were stuck in the rising waters of the normally shallow Tawi river. They were trying to cross the stream but were held in flash floods in the river Tawi which were caused by incessant rains in Jammu and Kashmir.
The IAF promptly responded to the district administration's request by launching Mi-17 from Jammu to evacuate the stranded villagers. They were flown to safety.
