SASB meets; reviews all aspects of ongoing Amarnath Yatra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 27: Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) met here today under the chairmanship of the Governor, N N Vohra, who is also the Chairman of the Board, and reviewed the status of the ongoing Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine and expressed satisfaction over several new initiatives taken this year for ensuring progressive and discernible improvement in the management of the pilgrimage. Governor informed the Board Members about the approaches adopted for the management of Yatra-2010 to ensure that all required logistical facilities and arrangements were timely put in place at the Base Camps, Camps enroute and at the Holy Cave to provide maximum comfort to the Yatris. Governor said that several new initiatives have been taken this year for bringing further improvement in the Yatra management. These, interalia, include increasing the number of registration counters of J&K Bank from 103 last year to121; provision of free Accident Insurance Cover of Rs one lakh for every registered Yatri for which the entire expenditure towards the insurance premium has been borne by the Board. Further, the Shrine Board had, with support from the State Government, also provided Accidental Insurance Cover to all the registered labourers (persons carrying baggage, ponywallahs and dandiwallahs) as also to the pony owners where pony may be involved in an accidental death, as a welfare measure for the poor sections of the society. Governor thanked the Union Ministry of Communications for making available cellular phone connectivity at Baltal, Domel, Chandanwari, Holy Cave, Panjtarni and Sheshnag. He added that the Board has also set up Digital Satellite Phones during the ongoing Yatra this year, at the crucial camps at Sheshnag, Panjtarni and the Holy Cave, and these have proved extremely useful in monitoring the Yatra arrangements and the movement of Yatris. He said that the Board's efforts had materialized because of the ready support extended by the State Government, the Security Forces and, more particularly, the full some contribution of the Valley people towards the smooth conduct of the Yatra. CEO Board, RK Goyal, in his comprehensive power point presentation, gave details of the arrangements put in place for the ongoing Yatra. The Board Members, while appreciating the various initiatives taken by the Board to bring continuous improvement in the management of the Yatra, desired that similar steps should be taken timely for Yatra 2011, for the larger benefit of the Yatris. They were also appreciative of the measures being taken for conservation of environment and ecology of the Yatra area.
