Amarnath yatra resumes again | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 27: After remaining suspended for about six hours, the pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas resumed again following improvement in the weather. The yatra resumed after green signal was received from different halting stations, yatra control room spokespersons said from Baltal and Pahalgam. The exact number of pilgrims was not immediately clear, as still some yatris were leaving, they said, adding it could be more than 8,000. The yatra was suspended this morning following heavy overnight rains due to which the track had become very slippery. Normally, the pilgrims left between 5 am to 6:30 am in the morning from Baltal side to reach the shrine in the afternoon after covering the 13-km-long hilly track, a yatra official at Baltal said. He said for the security of the yatris, no one was allowed this morning. However, now when the track was declared safe for journey, pilgrims left for the shrine. Similarly, pilgrims who were stationed at holy cave after having darshan of the self made ice-Shiv lingam yesterday, have also started their return journey to base camp. A yatra spokesman from Pahalgam said pilgrims also left the Nunwan base camp for Chandanwari after the track was declared safe for journey. Similarly, the pilgrims, who had night halt at different stations on this traditional track, also started their journey towards the cave. Those after having darshan also started their return journey, he said. About 3.30 lakh pilgrims, from different parts of the country had darshan of the holy Shivlingam since the commencement of the two-month-long yatra from July 1. As many as 29 pilgrims besides a local STD owner had died during the pilgrimage so far.
