Feasibility of water sports in Jammu discussed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 28: National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), an organisation of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management (IITTM), presented a draft report on the potential and feasibility of water sports in major water bodies of Jammu region in a meeting convened with Divisional Commissioner Dr. Pawan Kotwal here today. Among others, Director Tourism S. M. Sahni, DDC Reasi Pandurang K. Pole, representatives from National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS) and Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management (IITTM) and senior officers of Tourism department were present in the meeting. The main agenda of the meeting pertaining to feasibility of exploiting water bodies in Jammu division for promoting water sports and tourism were deliberated upon. The Divisional Commissioner was apprised of the potential of exploring water bodies in popular tourism destination like Surinsar lake, Mansar lake, Ranjit Sagar Reservoir at Basohli, Akhnoor, Ranbir Canal, Pul-Doda at Baglihar Dam catchment, Dul Hasti at Kishtwar, Preliminary assessment of white-water rafting on Chenab and operational and management aspects of watersports. The Divisional Commissioner asked the NIWS to prepare complete project report specifying long term costing and master plan for water sports and Tourism in Jammu region.
