Keep watch on water level, officials asked

JAMMU, July 28: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today conducted a hectic tour of flood prone areas across river Chenab and enquired about the plight of people there.
During day long tour of Byasa Chak, Bhore, Chak Dalbat, Muthi-Miara, Chak Sikandar, Banwal, Lehrian and other flood prone areas, Mr. Sharma reviewed the Flood Control infrastructure, interacted with the people and issued instructions to the accompanying officers to provide all possible assistance to the people who have suffered losses due to the recent floods in river Chenab.
Mr. Sharma reviewed the preparedness of various departments to cater any kind of emergency emerging out of floods in the far flung areas of Akhnoor and directed the concerned officers to remain present in their respective jurisdictions to meet any eventuality.
The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. M.K Dwevedi, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Akhnoor, Superintendent of Police and other senior officers of R&B, Revenue, Police and I& FC department.
Mr. Sharma visited various flood affected areas like Chan Juan, Byasa Chak, Bhore, Chak Dalbat, Muthi-Miara, Chak Sikandar, Banwal, Lehrian and adjoining areas to review the flood situation.
He instructed police and civil administrations to remain prepared for any kind of emergency and arrange necessary equipments like tents, medicines and other items of vital nature for the affected families. He said that temporary rehabilitation facilities should also be kept ready for meeting any eventuality.
He underscored the need to expedite pace of flood control works and instructed concerned engineers to be available round the clock at the site of work for supervision and maintaining strict quality control standards. He asked the authorities to immediately construct/repair the crates at Chak Dalbat village along the river Chenab and complete the same with in shortest possible time.
The Minister directed for taking all necessary steps to protect agricultural land from flash floods and called for working in shifts to complete the works on time.
Mr. Sham while reviewing flood works along the border areas urged for close liaison between civil and defence administration. He said resources should be tapped in and constant monitoring of water level should be ensured, so that people can be evacuated to safer places in case of any emergency.
During his visit various deputations met the Minister and apprised him about their problems which arise due to recent rains, the Minister assured that their genuine problems would be mitigated on priority.
