BSF jawan dies, 12 houses damaged, a dozen animals killed in flash floods

Rajouri, July 28: FOLLOWING heavy flash floods, the Deputy Commissioners today announced red alert in twin border districts of Rajouri-Poonch.
Heavy and continuous rainfall for the last 48 hours has claimed life of a Border Security Force personnel on Line of Control while at least 6 personsm, including a BSF jawan received injuries in various incidents.
There are also reports of collapsing of about 4 houses and 6 cowsheds and two motorable bridges in twin border districts of Rajouri Poonch while atleast a dozen houses were damaged and more than 15 animals died.
As per sources, due to heavy rainfall a bunker of BSF in extreme Line of Control in Biryani Gali area of Balakote Sector of Poonch district collapsed this morning resulting into on spot death of head constable Narpat Singh while another cop of the same BSF 76 battalion and E Company Santhan Das was seriously injured.
Sources said that both the cops were performing their duty of surveillance along LoC when the bunker collapsed. Postmortem of deceased BSF trooper has been conducted in Sub District Hospital, Mendher following which his body was dispatched to Ajmeer Rajasthan, his native place, for performing last rites .
Meanwhile the injured BSF man has been shifted to Military Hospital Rajouri, sources said.
Chowki Officer of Police in Balakote Mohammad Ayoub has confirmed death of one BSF jawan in bunker collapse.
Meanwhile, as per reports, atleast five persons have been injured in various incidents. Two labourers namely Ganga Das and Jalal Nowsheen, both residents of Doulatpur Rajasthan, have been hospitalised in District Hospital Rajouri when they received serious injuries in sliding marble in a mosque at Rajouri. Three persons have received injuries in Naka Majeri village of Poonch due to wall collapse.
Police sources said that 12 houses have been damaged in Digwar and Pouni Dhara Mohalla in Poonch due to raising of the level of Bathaj Nallah. However, all the residents have been evacuated by the police and district administration.
There are reports of collapsing of two houses in Naka Majari area of Mendher tehsil while two houses were collapsed in Rajouri town. One among them belonged to Ramseh Chander Gupta in Ward No 9 while another belonged to Dev Raj in Nabna Mohalla. Though loss of property has been reported, all the inmates have been rescued.
Two motrable bridges one in Budhal and another in Saj area have been cracked due to heavy rainfall, sources said.
Meanwhile reports said that more than 12 animals have died in Naka Majera and Digwar area of Poonch mostly drowned in various Nallahs.
