Accused escapes from lockup, cop suspended | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 28: An alleged narcotic smuggler, who was arrested along with charas a fortnight ago, today escaped from the custody of Bhaderwah police station in Doda.A cop was placed under suspension for his failure to prevent the escape, police sources said. Toufiq Raza, son of Nazir Ahmad, of Thathri, Doda, was held by police at Bhaderwah on July 14 last along with 20 grams of charas and lodged in the lockup of Bhaderwah police station.Today, when preparations were being made to shift him to the Udhampur district jail in a police vehicle, he escaped from the police custody at about 9.15 am, the sources added. Cop Nissar Ahmad was placed under suspension in this regard. Toufiq had not been arrested when reports last came in.When contacted, ASP, Bhaderwah, T R Katoch refused to comment on the issue, saying the newspaper could get details from the source it got to know about the incident.
