| Geelani is an asset for India, Take maximum care of him | | | RUSTAM

JAMMU, July 28: Tehrik-e-Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani is an asset for India. He remained member of the J&K Legislative Assembly for years and drew pension for years, but consistently poured venom on India and religiously damaged the Indian cause as a member of the Assembly and even otherwise. So what? He is an asset for India. Syed Ali Shah Geelani has all along worked for the separation of J&K from India and sought its merger with the fundamentalist, dictatorial and feudalistic Pakistan. So what? He is an asset for India, which is very secular and liberal. Geelani has all along hated everything Indian, everything that is not as per the Shari laws and everything that is being held very dear by the non-Muslims. So what? He is an asset for India. He is not a curse for the secular and democratic India. Geelani’s supporters have on occasions more than one hoisted Pakistani flags and flags of Lashkar in the heart of Srinagar city. So what? He is an asset for India. If he hoisted the Pakistani flag or the flags of the Pakistani-based and funded terrorist outfits or if he organized innumerable anti-India violent demonstrations and if he continues to organize anti-India demonstrations, that was, and is, his right.
Geelani has all through sought to paralyze the functioning of the state government, divide the society on religious lines and instigate the gullible Kashmiri Muslims against India to fulfill his most cherished desire – merger with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. So what? He is an asset for India; a respectable man who needs to be taken maximum care of so that he survives for years and carry on the activities he has been carrying on since decades. Geelani has all along instigated the common Kashmiri people to take to violent methods to bleed India. So what? He is a great asset for India and India just can’t afford to do with out him because he is respectable and a man of commitment.
Geelani has all through opposed the Shri Amarnath Yatra, saying this Yatra is aimed at polluting the Kashmir’s salubrious environment, destroying the Kashmir wildlife and changing the demographic profile of the Muslim Kashmir. Geelani has all along denounced the Amarnath Yatra as a cultural invasion on Kashmir and refused to take into consideration the religious sensitivities of the millions and millions of devotees of Lord Shiva. So what? Geelani is an asset for India. He is an integral part of the secular, democratic, liberal and pluralistic India. India can’t afford to lose such a respectable person.
India is great and our political class is also very great, compassionate and humane. That’s the reason the authorities always make all necessary arrangement in the country’s prestigious medical colleges and institutes whenever Geelani needs medical treatment, including heart surgery, transplantation of kidney and implantation of pace-maker. So if the Hon’ble Medical Education Minister Shri R S Chib visited the State’s most prestigious medical institute, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura (Srinagar) on Tuesday to meet Geelani, enquire about his health and direct the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) doctors to “ensure all possible specialized treatment to Geelani”, he only discharged his constitutional, moral and political obligation. After all, how could he, or for that matter the State Government and the Government of India, abandon the allegedly ailing Syed Ali Shah Geelani at a time when he is busy in organizing anti-India demonstrations. Shri R S Chib deserves kudos for the compassion he has even for those who want India to break into smithereens and impose on the people of the state a regressive and intolerant ideology.
Something is fundamentally wrong with the Indian State. Those who deserve compassion and fair treatment are shown the door and those who attack and bleed India; and those who are communalist of communalists and separatist of separatists and Pakistani of Pakistanis are treated with kid gloves and provided all sorts of comforts and facilities, including the expansive medical facilities. Still, the Medical Education Minister deserves bouquets for the tender heart he has and for the love and affection he has for the dreaded and out-and-out pro-Pakistan Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Long Live Gelani.
