DGP sanctions Scholarships for Police wards

SRINAGAR, July 29:
The Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda, today sanctioned scholarships in favour of school going children of police personnel, who have secured distinction in class 8th and 9th.
The scholarships have been sanctioned for the academic year 2009-2010.
Giving details, the DGP said that over Rs 2.50 lakhs have been sanctioned in favour of 123 wards of police personnel which include 55 wards of serving police personnel and 68 wards of deceased police personnel.
The meritorious scholarships have been sanctioned in favour of those children who have secured 75 percent and above marks in class 8th and 9th and the scholarships sanctioned in favour of children of police martyrs who are studying in different classes from 1st Primary to Graduation level.
He further said that these students are studying in various educational institutions across the State. The objective of granting scholarships is to boost the talent among the children so that they could compete in different educational streams in future, he added.
On the occasion, Khoda stressed upon the parents to make best use of these scholarships for future studies of their children. He said that in the present times our youth have to face tough competition to find any place in a discipline. He said that scholarships are being sanctioned in favour of the meritorious students out of Central Police Welfare Fund, who secure distinction in different annual examinations.
DGP said that police organization, besides other measures, has started so many schemes under its welfare programme for the benefit of serving police personnel and the families of police martyrs.
Khoda further said that efforts are on to provide better educational facilities to the wards of police personnel. He said that department has a realization that the police personnel remains away from their homes in service of the nation and their families do not get the required care. It is responsibility of the organization to encourage the wards of these personnel for competing in various competitive examinations for their better career prospects, he added.
