Landslides block Kashmir-PoK road, bus service suspended | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 29: Landslides, triggered by incessant rains, today led to the blockage of the Kashmir-Muzaffarabad road, resulting in the suspension of "Carvaan-e-Aman", the weekly-bus service between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Official sources said the bus service between Kashmir and Muzaffarabad was suspended due to landslides at Chokti in PoK.The landslides were triggered by heavy rains lashing the area for the past few days, the sources added. Considered as a major confidence building measure between India and Pakistan, the bus service was inaugurated by prime minister Manmohan Singh on April 7, 2005, to allow divided families to meet. Initially, the bus service was running twice a month but it was made a weekly affair in 2008.
