Rains wash away Krishanpur-Kharappa road | * Locals allege PWD used inferior material | |
EARLYTIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 30:
Despite the tall claims of the Public Works Department (PWD) to provide road connectivity to the rural people in different part of the state by providing quality roads, there are many villages in hilly and plain areas where roads indeed have been constructed but low in quality as rains washed away many newly constructed roads.
Recent heavy rains exposed the alleged inferior quality of works being done by the Public Works Department (PWD) on a two kilometer road stretch from village Krishanpur to village Kharappa having almost 150 households in Block Dansal in District Jammu. Recent rains have caused much damage to the road at many places. It creates many problems for commuters and other residents of the village.
Entire cost of the project was about Rupees 50 lakh.
It is pertinent to mention here that this road was constructed almost three years ago and even was repaired many a times.
Locals alleged that this is nothing but misuse of public money, had PWD properly constructed the road, the road would not have been washed away and no need of repairing would have arisen.
Prominent citizens of the area Romail Singh said that the state government had given 50 lakh to PWD for the construction of the road. But each time low quality construction material was used, which resulted in further ruination of the road.
He also said that the PWD had also constructed a wall along the road for prevention the households from the floods, it has also damaged because of the rains.
When contacted local MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma for his comments, he said that he was also equally concerned about the plight of the people. He also said that the road was under construction and would be repaired soon.
Concerned Junior Engineer PWD, Amin Malik could not be contacted even after repeated attempts.
