JAMMU, July 30:
Highlighting deficiency of the basic amenities of the residents of Nowshera and Sunderbani area particularly power scenario, former Minister and senior Congress leader Dr Romesh Sharma appealed the state government to fulfill these demands on priority basis here today.
Addressing media persons, he said that during last District Development Board (DDB) meeting, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had assured installation of high capacity transformers for Kalakot power station but no decision stands implemented till date.
He also said that a grid station was sanctioned in year 2005 for which foundation stone was laid down by the power minister at Siot. However, work on that station was not going on and 132 KV lines have not been laid till date and the area were totally neglected.
Expressing his concern over the deteriorating condition of the area, the former minister said that due to lack of adequate power supply people were not getting Wheat or other essential commodities as grinding mills could not function without electricity. The irrigation schemes have also been lying defunct besides dug wells and other water supply sources were also non-functional due to power crises.
He also added the people are also suffering from drought and urged the Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla to provide free ration to the people of Sunderbani Kalakot and Nowshehra so that they can save themselves from starvation.
The former minister also urged the government to monitor all the centrally sponsored schemes and ensure their fair implementation.
