Tarigami demands relief to flood sufferers | | |
Early Times Report Srinagar, July 30: State Secretary CPI (M), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has expressed deep concern over the losses caused to crops, property and cattle by floods in various parts of the valley particularly in the districts of Kupwara, Bandipore and Uri. In a statement issued today, Tarigami said that the state was prone to natural calamities, especially floods, and as such, Government should have framed a wide-ranging long term preventive plan instead of relying on ad hoc measures. He urged for in-built preventive measures to protect life and property against intense vagaries of nature. While reiterating his demand for a separate Flood Control Department, Tarigami urged upon the government to asses the losses suffered by people owing to floods, and provide adequate compensation to the sufferers under Natural Calamities Relief Fund. “Mere assurances and statements are not enough, concrete steps for immediate relief to the sufferers must be taken immediately”, he asserted.
