40,000 Sawjian residents disconnected from world
Hill near Mandi slide down, GREF says it may take five days to restore traffic

Due to heavy rainfall for the last three days, a hill in Mandi area of Poonch district has slide down disconnecting all communication of atleast 40,000 people from the rest of the world. Administration is however doing its efforts to arrange alternate arrangements of communication to the area.

Sources said that whole hill near Mandi area on Mandi-Sawjian road has slide down which has created great loss to the road. Due to landslide atleast 40,000 people living in Sawjian, Gagarian, Bedar, Chamber, Balnoi, Jalian, Fatepur and Chela Dhangri area have been disconnected from the rest of the world.

The road is under the control of GREF who have rushed to the spot to access the situation. However the officials of the GREF said that as the sliding is still on, they could access the situation properly. The officials of GREF on the spot said that it may take four to five days to clear this road. “We cannot give exact days to restore traffic but I think it will take some 6 days to open the road”, an official of GREF said.

Meanwhile Member Legislative Assembly Poonch Ajaz Jan has approached Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Khursheed Ahmed to inform Chief Minister about disastrous situation in Poonch. He has also recommended construction of protection walls in Rangar, Jalian, Kenu Kalani and Gagarian area to save the lives of the people from flash floods in future.

Talking to Early Times Ajaz Jan said that he has also personally talked to Deputy Commissioner Poonch and Commanding Officer of GREF to repair the road on war footing so that the people may not suffer in the area. “I am personally monitoring the whole situation in the area and are in contact with the government”, Jan said demanding relief to all flood and rainfall victims of the Poonch district. “I have received information about huge loss of property to the people and I have requested Chief Minister through his Principal Secretary to announce relief package for the district.
