Awareness lecture delivered to Ramban students

In order to spread awareness among the students about the drugs abuse and ragging, the district judiciary, Ramban in collaboration with Government Degree College, Ramban conducted number of lectures in the college premises.
Besides students, lecture was delivered by Prof GQ Sheikh and Munsif district court Ramban A S Langeh . They highlighted the ill of drugs addiction and ragging. Langeh apprising the students about the ill effects of the ragging said’ “ragging is cognizable offence which doesn’t require anybody’s permission to arrest the offender and said 38 deaths through ragging during 2007-08 in India were reported”. Quoting the recent ill effects of the ragging, he said that the Aman Kachroo case in Himachal Pradesh is an example who was tortured to death due to ragging. He urged students to shun this practice. Professor GQ Sheikh also apprised students about the ill effects of drug addiction. He said that children of 16 to 18 are more vulnerable as they initially consumed drugs for style but with due course of time they became addicted.
Delivering lecture on ragging, he told students that to curb ragging an affidavit on the part of the student has become mandatory in any educational institutions, violation of which means rejection of admission.
The role of the Principal of the college Kalpana Kesar and chief prosecuting officer Irshad Ahmed for organizing such programmes was also appreciated on occasion. Later, Gulam Hassan, legal assistant conducted the proceedings and Dr. GQ Sheikh presented vote of thanks.
