70 kg gold seizure case | DC, SSP scritinise files of Met Trade India Ltd | | Early Times Report KATHUA, July 30: Deputy commissioner (DC) Sanjeev Verma and SSP Gareeb Dass today examined with a great care files and other documents of Met Trade India Ltd, which is in the eye of the storm since Tuesday last when its 70 kg gold biscuits were seized at Rajpura in Punjab. The SSP later said they were still in the process of examining the files of the company. "As and when we detect tax evasion, or any unlawful processing of gold, we will take legal action against the Met Trade management," he asserted. The company owns a metal processing unit in SICOP industrial area here. Its consignment of 70 kg gold biscuits was seized by the Punjab excise department Tuesday at Rajpura. The Punjab excise department was still investigating into the matter.Official sources said the company workers had in the past raised the issue of alleged illegal trade of gold by the management with police and civil administration.CITU leaders Nirdosh Uppal and Raj Kumar have demanded a thorough probe into the matter. They alleged that the Met Trade had expelled some workers last year when they had come to know about the illegal processing of gold and silver in the factory. They emphasised the need for launching immediate probe into the matter, saying a delay in this regard would provide time to the factory management to change the files and other record in their favour.
