'Onus of present crisis in Valley lies on govt' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 1: "The responsibility of current turmoil in Kashmir Valley lies on 'irresponsible approach' of the Central government and 'immature attitude' of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Situation would have been different if the Central government had acted on time," said the members of civil society and intellectuals while expressing their views over volatile situation in Kashmir. Speaking during a day-long seminar on 'Present turmoil in Kashmir' organised by Jammu Kashmir Peoples Forum (JPPF), the speakers also blamed MLAs and Ministers for failing to discharge their constitutional duties. The speakers however, suggested for inter-regional dialogue among the civil societies of all the three regions, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, for restoring peace and normalcy in the region. They further stressed for finding an ever-lasting solution to the problem, saying "the solution should be acceptable to the people of all the regions." The seminar was attended by the representatives of political, social and religious groups, besides renowned scholars, intellectuals and lawyers also took part in it. "Non-governance is the root cause of present turmoil in the state. The leaders who were given mandate and elected by the people had miserably failed to discharge their constitutional duties. "While Kashmir has been burning since past one month, not even a single MLA had visited their respective constituencies while the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been running the administration from his Gupkar residence," he maintained. He regretted, "The whole state has been put on ransom. There is complete breakdown of law and order. It is the irony that the Governor, N N Vohra, who is a representative of Central government, has also maintained a silence over the issue." Quoting the recent instance of locking of Civil Secretariat gates by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shakeel said, "A case under section 186 RPC should have been registered against Mehbooba Mufti for deterring public servants from discharging their official duties." He also alleged that some forces are hell bent to create wedge among the people of Jammu region. "People of Jammu should understand the evil designs of such forces and they should make efforts to remain united and strong in secularism," he maintained. Shakeel also said, "Jammu and Ladakh have direct bearing of Kashmir situation. Jammu traders are directly affected due to shutdown in Valley The noted lawyer, while stressed for addressing the genuine problems of Kashmiri people, said, "Policy of appeasement being followed by the Central government has caused maximum damage in Jammu and Kashmir." M M Khajuria, former Director General of Police (DGP) also criticized the Omar led coalition government, saying "The coalition government doesn't have any agenda. Jobs are being given to stone pelters while the education youth are feeling alienated." He also threw light on recently held talks between India and Pakistan. Ramesh Sabbharwal, convenor JKPF blamed the Central government for "irresponsible" approach towards Jammu and Kashmir.
