Natrang staged 'Hawalaat'- a political satire! | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 1: 'Hawalaat'-a Hindi satire written by famous playwright and satirist Sarweshwar Dayal Saxena was presented under the direction of Neeraj Kant here today at Natrang Studio Theatre in connection with Natrang's weekly show 'Sunday Theatre'. The play proved to be a hard hitting satire on the establishment which has failed to tap the most energetic human resource of the country. The dejected youths cry has been beautifully portrayed in the play. The story of the play 'Hawalat' revolves around three Youth who have no place to live. It was the coldest night of the winter and they were without food and shelter. Since nobody was ready to offer them the shelter, they thought it proper to have the same in a police lock-up. For this they approached a police cop as criminals. But the cop is not ready to believe them and asks the trio to establish their credentials by demonstrating their expertise in crime and past accomplishments. They try to convince him by giving series of logics. To avoid them, the cop agrees to take them to the lock-up (Hawalat) after tying their eyes. Instead of taking them to the Police station, the cop keeps them taking round and round at one cross road and finally leaves at the place from where they had started. The play is a big satire on the exploitation of the youth by the present system. The people in power continue to sell them dreams through their hollow slogans and no one is able to realize that most important task force of the country at their prime is getting wasted. The politicians of this country have been befooling the youth since independence in the same way the cop played with them. Mohit Sharma as police cop has been at his best and portrayed both the inner and outer conflict of such a complex character. The three youth were played by Rohit Verma, Pankush Verma and Rahul Singh. Their timings and prefect moves were highly praiseworthy. The music of the play which complimented and enhanced the emotional appeal of the play was audio graphed by Rohit Verma. The lights were designed and executed by Sona Singh. Pawan Verma did the presentations. The show was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma
