Cabinet reviews Kashmir situation | | | ABID SHAH EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Aug 1: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has taken here the stock of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of continuing violence. At the end of the meeting held here this evening under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Government indicated that it is keeping a close tab on the developments in the State through the reports being received from Governor and Chief Minister from Srinagar. This is significant since it is for the first time since the last CCS held on Kashmir a few weeks ago the report from Governor has figured in the discussions. The Government also indicated here that it was willing to offer amnesty to those under custody for separatist or militant tendencies and allow those militants back who were lured in the past to across the borders. Today's meeting was attended by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister AK Antony and Home Minister P Chidambaram. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired the meeting. |
