Five-day training programme for NGO functionaries begins

Jammu, Aug 02: A five-day training programme for the NGO functionaries of Jammu region was inaugurated by Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension, University of Jammu, here today. The training programme is being attended by over 30 functionaries of various Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and community/grass root level workers of Jammu region.
Mrs. Trishla Kumari, Deputy Director, Social Welfare and Mrs. Anusuya Jamwal, Assistant Director, Social welfare Department were the guests of honour in the inaugural session. Professor Poonam Dhawan, Director, CACE&E was also present at the occasion.
Welcoming the participants, Dr Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, CACE&E who is also the coordinator of programme, informed that the Centre has been closely working in coordination with community leaders, NGOs and others for its various field outreach and extension activities. She said a need was felt to fill the gaps in running an NGO smoothly and effectively. As such, community leaders felt that a training programme should be organized to respond to the need. The rationale for the training programme, she said, is to strengthen the process of planning development schemes and making them need relevant, people friendly and also to ensure effective implementation, monitoring and follow up of the schemes at field level.
Prof Poonam Dhawan said that under its extension activities, CACE&E is working very closely with the NGOs. She said CACE&E is more into academic and systematic work and can organize an academic course for the NGOs so that they work as a link between the people’s needs and government’s initiatives. The CACE&E, Social Welfare and NGOs can together work in this regard. She added that a training module has been developed by the CACE&E in this regard to address significant needs among the people living in Jammu and Kashmir. She also informed that a certificate course in extension education and ‘NGO development and Management’ would soon be started after receiving input from the NGOs and Social Welfare department.
Mrs. Trishala Kumari, Deputy Director, Social Welfare, said that her department was also closely working with the NGOs. She said this training programme would go a long way in meeting the training needs of field functionaries. .Mrs. Anusuya Jamwal, Assistant Director, Social Welfare department said that the NGOs and government have to work together and their department is committed to reach out to the weaker sections of society. It has provision for many schemes for various sections of society.
Mr. H.N.Tiku, president, J&K Confederation of voluntary and Charitable Organizations and Dr Gurmeet Singh, Chairman, SAWERA conducted two sessions on the first day.
The topics to be covered in five-day training programme include NGO Skills: A Checklist; Starting an NGO: Logistics; NGO Management: Strategic Planning; Project Development: Design and Management; Financial Management: Grant-Writing and Budgeting; Building Networks: Community and Government Relations; and NGO Public Relations: Media and Advocacy.
The programme was attended by Mrs. Kailash Gupta, Programme Officer, CACE&E, Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr. Bharti Prabhakar, Mr.Sandeep Singh Sandy, all project officers, CACE&E, Ms. Nirmal Padha J&K Women Society, Rajiv Chuni, J&K SOS International, Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Sawera Mr.R.K Khajuria Alami Khudai Khidmatgar Association, T.S, Premee,, Hari Dutt Shishu, Ashutosh Sharma, R.K.Tikoo, Kuldeep Bhan, Rak Kumari Sehgal, Jagdish Raj Padha, and Satya Jamwal.
