PDP opposes Guv rule, JKNPP favours | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 2 : While senior Congress and National Conference leaders are against changing the guard at the current juncture, surprisingly a section of the leadership in the main opposition PDP is not in favour of placing the troubled state under the Governor's rule. ``Imposition of Governor's rule is no solution to the current wave of turmoil in the Valley,"said a senior PDP leader,Nizam-ud-Din Bhat. Bhat said that since peoples' anger against Chief Minister,Omar Abdullah was rising "like a surge," the Government of India should first of all remove him and then find an alternative arrangement. He said so long Omar continued to remain in the chair, there would be no improvement in the security situation. Explaining it, he said people have started believing that Omar has been an "impediment" in redressing problems of the people. Asked whether it was better for the centre to place Dr Farooq Abdullah as successor to Omar, Bhat said "it was for the centre to decide." In reply to a question, he said that as a result of crisis in the leadership the situation has witnessed unprecedented slump. In reply to another question, the PDP leader said that leadership crisis had gripped both the separatists and the mainstream political spectrum. He said that by siding with the security forces Omar Abdullah had enraged people. On the other hand, the Panthers Party has favoured placing the state under the Governor's rule. The Working chairman of the Panthers Party,Harsh Dev Singh, said that imposition of the central rule was the only solution. He said if the centre toyed with the idea of replacing Omar Abdullah or by Ghulam Nabi Azad or by any other leader it will not change the situation in Kashmir. He said if a brief spell of Governor's rule was imposed, the centre could either keep the Assembly under animated suspension and in case there was no let up, the House could be dissolved to pave way for fresh elections. However, a section of the leaders in the Congress and the National Conference believe that imposing Governor's rule or replacing Omar Abdullah by any other leader could encourage separatists to the extent that they may start believing that they have the power to be king makers and breakers. They wanted the Centre to lend further support to Omar Abdullah and give him more time for handling the situation which is the result of the machinations of militants and their patrons across the border.
