Chopra murder case: Court sends Sangram Singh to Central Jail

Jammu, Aug 2 : In a jam-pack court room of Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu today, the Guna Police along with Jammu police produced Sangram Singh son of Prema Pradhi, alleged kingpin of the Chopra family murder case whereas Jammu police filed an application seeking custody of Sangram Singh for investigation. Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, Ashok Kumar Shan in open Court ordered that accused Sangram Singh be lodged in the Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal and directed Supt Kot-Bhalwal Jail to produce him on August 3 for order on application of Jammu Police for custody of sangram Singh.
It is worthwhile to mention here that two accused in the much publicised Chopra Family Murder case which took place on September 18, 2006 in which Kiran Pradhi and Sangram Singh were declared absconders and arrest warrants issued against them.
According to the challan presented by Special Investigation Team after more than 3 years of the occurrence that on September 18, 2006 at 10:30 pm, an information was received from reliable sources police station, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu that some unidentified persons after gaining entry in the residential house of Rajinder Bushan Chopra alias Raju Chopra with criminal intention at sector 3 Trikuta Nagar have brutally murdered him, his wife Madhu Chopra, daughter Saloni Chopra, Servant Sonu and driver Jagan Nath, after their hands and legs were tied mouths gagged. The bodies were lying on the floor in the pool of blood. After committing crime the accused persons fled from the spot in a white alto car No 0030/JK02AC, owned by chopra's which was parked in the premises of house. On this FIR No 107/2006 u/s 302 RPC was registered and investigation was taken-up by then SHO Mohd Rafiq Manhas. According to the a direction of the High Court passed on November 17, 2008 for the investigation of this case, SIT of 11 Gazetted officers headed by one IPS officer of the rank of Supt of Police and ably supported and assisted by many NGOs and other ranks was constituted by DGP J&K. the State cabinet referred this case to CBI for investigation, vide a notification September 25, 2006, however, CBI refused to take over the case on the ground that the case was of local nature. The SIT examined about 150 suspects in the case and thereafter reached the conclusion that the murder of five persons was committed by a gang of criminal outside the state. It was also found that cash of Rs 56, 11, 384/- was looted. It was also mentioned in the challan that deceased Rajinder Bhushan Chopra was possessed licensed pistol with him. About this the alleged enemy of deceased knows this fact very well. During the investigation accused Vicky was taken to FSL Banglore for polygraph, brain mapping and NAT who has confess the crime committed by the Gang of Sangram and also narrated whole the story of the murder. Upon this the investigation team arrested other accused in which Mahesh and Rushi were also put on Narco Analysis Test. In the challan, it has been mentioned that accused Vicky had written an application from the judicial lock up central jail Jammu to the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jammu in which he had requested for recording his statement about the chopra murder case. CJM referred this application to City Judge Jammu, upon this the accused recorded his statement before the Court of City Judge thereafter he was made approver in the case. In his statement, Vicky stated that accused Sangram and others bring him Jammu for theft case whereas Sangram asked him to stay on the gate of RB Chopra's House and he further disclosed that he saw the murder of the daughter of Chopra but he has not committed murder of any one.
Meanwhile, AK Shan Principal Sessions Judge Jammu also fixed next date of hearing on faming of charge.
